Let’s face it. Times have changed. People no longer want the traditional definition of the American dream. Instead, we want freedom from it. With the high cost of living rising exponentially, there has to be a way out of the all-encompassing debt of home ownership. We want to break the cycle of working just to pay bills. We’ve now come to realize that a thirty-year mortgage is akin to a prison sentence. Who wants to make payments on something for three entire decades? Hence our shift to lower cost living. More and more, we’re sidestepping the monumental costs to acquire overblown, overpriced cookie cutter boxes for simple, economical and comfortable abodes that are within our reach. These homes are attainable; we just have to find clever, creative solutions to building them. A home does not have to be big (which is mostly wasted space, anyway), just functional. Small homes require an emotional commitment, not a financial sacrifice. That’s why I started Small Home Magazine, to show people how to design, build, decorate and live in limited space with unlimited potential.
